Christ the King Episcopal Church in Tuscon

February 07, 2017  •  Leave a Comment

I was driving down W Ina Rd in Tucson and just happened to see this church. We were on vacation at the time so I stopped and asked the Pastor if I could walk around with my camera and take a few photos. He was very polite and said that would be fine.
I could've spent hours here but my wife was with me in the car and she is not a photographer so I couldn't stay too long.
I would love to go back someday during the golden hour or early morning.
Here a just a few photos I took.

Thanks for checking them out!

Sandia Mountains sunset

I've lived in and have been a photographer in Albuquerque for a long time and the Sandia Mountains never cease to amaze and inspire me.
The Sandia Mountains reside in central New Mexico with the city of Albuquerque sitting in it's early morning shadow.
The west side of the mountain faces the setting sun and as a result they catch the last warm rays of daylight and soak them in for all they are worth.
When the clouds are just right, the setting sun reflects of those clouds and creates colors and hues I've never seen anywhere else before.

during the golden hour of light.
These pictures of the southwest and Sandia Mountain photos are available as fine art prints in a variety of sizes.

They are printed on Epson Premium Luster Fine Art Paper.

Here are two photos, both shot at the same location, same day but different times.
One while the sun was low but still visible on the horizon, the next just after sun began to disappear. Note how the sun is reflecting of the clouds and bouncing those colors back down to the Sandias.

This is why the Sandias are called the "Sandias". Sandias means watermelon in spanish.

Cloudscapes

Sometimes the light in front of you isn't as dramatic as the light behind you.
One thing I've learned, I may go out with a specific photo in mind but sometimes that's not the photo I come back with.
I had a night off without any paid jobs to shoot or a ton of photoshop work to do so I went out to shoot the Sandia Mountains in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The Sandias are in my own backyard, for the most part, and can look very stunning in the setting sun. I was hoping for some dramatic light on the those mountains as the evening sun sets directly west of them.
As happens many times, clouds rolled in over the west horizon blocking the setting sun but that doesn't mean there wasn't anything left to photograph.
I'm really beginning to like sky shots!

WNCR Event

Here are a few photos from the 2016 WNCR fundraising event. The WNCR "Walking N Circles" Horse Rescue is a equine rescue facility in New Mexico, located north of Edgewood in Stanley, NM. The ranch takes in abused, neglected and abandoned horses and provides care, food and training.

One of the ranch hands working with a paint horse in the round pen. The round pen is where all training begins for a horse. This is where they learn commands, respect and confidence. All training at the WNCR uses only Natural Horsemanship techniques.

These horses are very specifically trained to remain calm in very hostile and violent riot situations but will go anywhere and do anything the officer wants or needs them to without hesitation.

San Jose Church in Algodones, NM

October 29, 2013  •  3 Comments

I was riding my bike out on Highway 313 past Bernalillo, New Mexico and as I rode through Algodones I spotted this church and I turned my head, looking back over my right shoulder I saw this scene.
I went back several days later in my truck and my 5D2 and spent over an hour taking photos of this area. The light didn't turn out as dramatic as I'd hoped but I still liked the light.

I like riding, on my motorcycle, out to San Felipe Pueblo and I usually ride all the way into the pueblo itself. It's a nice ride and I love to look at the Rio Grande from that area as the sun is going down. There is no photography allowed on the pueblo so I have to just enjoy the scene without a camera. Take it in for a few minutes, wave to the villagers that pass and ride back.
